A man who loves to travel journies to an island and is horrified to discover a mad doctor is creating a race of zombies! A wild frenzy of blood and destruction takes place that equals anything ever seen on the screen. This was billed as the ""first audience participation horror movie"" as audiences viewed the ""green blood prologue"" ahead of the film and had samples of ""green blood"" distributed to them to drink as they took the oath for their own protection.
Back in the day Pam Grier was the baddest nubian princess on the block and the undisputed queen of the Blaxpoitation genre. This box set brings together three of her finest movies in which Ms. Grier gets to kick plenty of booty! Foxy Brown: She's brown sugar and spice... and if you don't watch it she'll put you on ice! Grier portrays one of the screen's first action heroines with humor sensitivity and steely determination. This electrifying revenge thriller explodes with all the sex appeal and cooler-than-cool attitude of its irresistible leading lady. Foxy Brown (Grier) has found her soul mate in an undercover narcotics investigator but when he is brutally murdered she swears vengeance against the crime ring responsible. Posing as a call girl to gain access to the ring's inner circle Foxy discovers just how high the corruption extends igniting a blistering war that takes her from the city streets to a remote drug laboratory to a breathtaking mid-air battle behind the controls of an airplane! But the most startling confrontations are yet to come as she schemes to bring down her boyfriend's killers in ways they never could have imagined. Coffy: She's the ultimate tough and sexy heroine. She's Soul Cinema superstar Pam Grier and whether delivering her justice with a shotgun a razor or just her bare hands she doesn't miss a beat in this no-hold-barred tale of retaliation from exploitation writer/director Jack Hill. Grier is Coffy nurse by day and avenging angel by night. When she discovers that her little sister has been doped up - and freaked out - by a greedy drug pusher she not only puts an end to his miserable days but she vows to follow his trail of corruption up to the top - the very top. But what Coffy doesn't realise is that all is not what it seems - and that the leafy green behind the pushers' scene just may come from someone she knows! Black Mama White Mama: Grier is Lee Daniels a prostitute doing hard time in an island prison camp for women where the guards have a new way to punish inmates who fight: by cuffing 'em together! Chained to her bitter rival white revolutionary Karen (Margaret Markov) Lee finds herself literally linked to the revolutionary cause - and on the fly - when Karen's guerrilla friends stage a coup! But this foxy inmate's got a cause of her own in the form of a secret stash of cold hard cash and a getaway boat! Brawling with her white counterpart over which way to go and tracked like a dog by guards guerrillas and a gangster after the loot she's gotta make her escape - before both mamas' enemies bring them down for good!
CHICKS IN CHAINS ON THE LAM FROM A PRISON HELL! Before her iconic turn in Coffy, Pam Grier starred alongside Margaret Markov in a grindhouse spin on Stanley Kramer's The Defiant Ones, fusing the Women in Prison film with the emerging Blaxploitation movement for a riotous romp of bullets, babes and blood! Lee (Grier), a tough prostitute and Karen (Markov), a revolutionary, are admitted to a tough women's prison where almost immediately (after some playful showering that prefigures Porky's) they clash. Packed off to a maximum security prison, their transport is ambushed by Karen's guerrilla friends and the two escape into the Filipino jungle. Chained together and with differing escape plans their clash intensifies as Lee wants to retrieve a stash of stolen cash to get her off the island and Karen wants to re-join her revolutionary group. Escape isn't easy as they come up against a series of obstacles including a corrupt cop, a bounty hunter, a sadistic Drug Lord and guerrillas who threaten to turn everything upside down. Chock full of girl fights, gun battles, nudity and humour, Black Mama White Mama, which was also known as Women in Chains and Hot, Hard and Mean, lives up to all its titles as well as featuring a brilliant Sid Haig (Spider Baby, House of 1000 Corpses) as a cowboy bounty hunter and Lynn Borden (Frogs, Dirty Mary Crazy Larry) as a lesbian guard from a script co-written by Jonathan Demme (Caged Heat) and a score sampled by Quentin Tarantino for Kill Bill. Special Edition Content: High Definition Blu-ray (1080p) presentation Original uncompressed mono PCM audio Optional English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing Audio commentary with filmmaker Andrew Leavold, director of The Search for Weng Weng White Mama Unchained: An interview with star Margaret Markov Sid Haig's Filipino Adventure: An interview with star Sid Haig The Mad Director of Blood Island: A previously unseen archive interview with director Eddie Romero Trailer Gallery featuring promotional images and the original press book Reversible sleeve featuring original and newly commissioned artwork by Sean Phillips

In the late 1960s and early 70s, a bizarre alliance between the Filippino movie company Hemisphere and the American exploitation outfit Independent International yielded a series of weirdly interconnected horror movies, most of which work the word Blood into the title. The Filippino items are strangely fascinating vampire and mad scientist pictures with oddball colour effects and a mix of naive serial-style thrills and extreme-for-the-era sex and gore; the American efforts, from director Al Adamson, are shoddier, thrown together from offcuts of previous pictures, and are lead-paced but nevertheless curiously appealing. Gaze in awe at mutant killer trees, slobbering hunchbacked servants, faded matinee idols, stripper-turned-actress heroines with concrete blonde hairdos, evil dwarves, John Carradine or Lon Chaney, footage cut in from completely different films, Dracula and Frankenstein meeting hippies and bikers, red filters when the vampires attack, chanting natives! Plus lots of exclamation marks! Plus lurid trailers! Adequately billed as "a brutal orgy of ghastly terror!", Brides of Blood concerns a landowner affected by bomb test fall-out who changes periodically into a lecherous fanged totem pole creature and "satisfies" himself by ripping apart naked native maidens staked out on an altar. With the aptly-named Beverly Hills and one of the silliest monsters ever seen. --Kim Newman
