Considered by critics a pinnacle of slasher movies, STAGEFRIGHT is now finally given the release it deserves, from a new 4K restoration, for us to marvel at the inventive genius of director Michele Soavi (Cemetery Man, The Sect, The Church) combining relentless graphic blood-splattered set pieces with his trademark witty filmmaking elegance - a quality not normally associated with slasher movies ! Soavi intended his film to be called Aquarius - or aquarium - alluding to the viewer being able to see the action as if it took place inside a fishbowl. Cleverly constructed to heighten suspense, the director intentionally mixes fake with reality: showing us the ˜real' serial killer of our film as he infiltrates a group of stage actors rehearsing overnight in an isolated place; he kills and takes the place of the actor whose role in the play is that of a killer permanently hidden under a giant owl head! His identity unseen, the now real killer-owl stalks and dismembers the troupe one by one! Schooled by Dario Argento and Terry Gilliam but with his own unique personal flair, Soavi's first feature can finally be seen as intended, with this edition further benefitting from the director's colour grading and framing indications given during a candid conversation filmed exclusively for one of the many Extras on this Special Edition disc. • Political Target - Based on a True Story [DVD]Political Target - Based on a True Story | DVD | (30/10/2017) from £9.43   |  Saving you £N/A (N/A%)   |  RRP £N/A

Directed by Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival winner Michele Soavi and starring Raoul Bova (Alien vs. Predator), Political Target was made for the Italian Television Network and first aired in Italy in 2006 on Channel 5. Political Target tells the tense, true story of how Italian investigators attempted to take down one of the most feared militant organisations Italy had ever seen, the Red Brigade. This is a must-see series for crime drama fans as well as those who enjoy realistic accounts of police investigations into terrorist organisations. The series captures the horror and trauma felt across Italy when the feared Red Brigade returned after an 11-year absence, and once again began a series of violent murders across the country. Political Target dissects the composition of the new Red Brigade, whose members appear to be normal, conventional individuals, unlikely to be leading double lives. The drama also shows the impact of the murders on families of the victims, including professors D'Antona and Biagi, and police superintendent Petri. The series also presents the investigators working on the case, struggling for any information on the elusive Red Brigade that will deliver a significant blow to the newly reformed terrorist organisation. Political Target is a fascinating re-telling of a dark era in Italy's history, exploring the ups and downs of Italy's war against terrorism in realistic detail. It is vitally relevant today as Europe continues to battle against terrorism.

  • Political Target [DVD]Political Target | DVD | (14/10/2013) from £5.99   |  Saving you £10.00 (166.94%)   |  RRP £15.99

The return of the Red Brigade in Italy after 11 years of silence from this terrorist organization was a traumatic event for the entire country besides obviously for the families of the victims killed: the professors D'Antona and Biagi and subsequently the police superintendent Petri. It was precisely from this death that the investigators gained the key for entering into the heart of the new RB discovering that which appeared to be invisible and elusive and deliver a number of significant blows to the renewed terrorism even if the trial has not yet concluded. Narrating this story signifies trying to tell another piece of Italian history without doubt extremely recent and therefore without the necessary detachment of a historian but extremely deeply rooted in the ups and downs of Italian terrorism which have ancient roots and therefore place able within a wider context. This miniseries shows this gripping true story with great quality and respect. The investigative approach which was adopted after a decade of absence of investigations into terrorism is precisely one of the most significant aspects: they are investigations which differ from all the others also carried out using traditional methods but with intelligence and psychological and strategic methods which are different a challenge already won in the past by the State but which has re-presented itself suddenly and unexpectedly. This new challenge launched by the RB in 1999 with the murder of Massimo D'Antona also seems to have been won but there is always the danger that sooner or later someone will re-present it. A topic more than ever relevant in the times we are living right now.
