Alwyn Crawshaw visits some of the scenes and locations made famous by John Constable and paints the scenes as they are today. The beautiful locations fascinating history and the stories behind Constable's best known paintings make this series delightful to watch. Episode One: Introduction to Constable Country: Alwyn starts the programme in East Bergholt where Constable was born and sketches Constable's first studio. Then walking between East Bergholt and Flatford Alwyn sketches Fen Lane in oils near the site of Constable's inspiration for 'The Cornfield'. Finally Alwyn paints Willy Lot's cottage - the cottage Constable depicted in 'The Haywain'. Episode Two: Sketching: Constable sketched profusely and in this episode Alwyn visits the meadows around Constable Country and Dedham where Constable went to school sketching a stile a wrought iron lamp post and a distant view of Dedham Church. Episode Three: Churches: In this episode Alwyn visits three churches: Dedham Church East Bergholt and St Mary's in Stoke-by-Nayland. He tells the story of Constable's association with the Church - not always a happy one. Episode Four: Trees Meadows and Skies: Alwyn visits the site of 'The Leaping Horse' and sketches a pollarded willow and a group of ash trees. Constable made over 100 cloud studies and Alwyn does one of his own in water-colour. Episode Five: Mills and Water: The area around Flatford Mill has changed remarkably little since Constable's time. Alwyn visits the site of 'Boatbuilding' and paints a watercolour of the Mill as well as an oil sketch of a wooden rowing boat. Episode Six: Landscapes: Constable painted Dedham Mill many times but Alwyn paints a lock-keepers cottage which had not been built when Constable was alive. He also visits Stour House originally owned by friends of Constable's and paints a panoramic landscape of Dedham Vale.

ROSE WEST: The case of Rose West, who is currently serving a life sentence without parole for 10 separate counts of murder, committed during the 1970s and 80s. Her husband and partner in the sexually motivated crimes committed suicide in prison in 1995. Herself a victim of abuse, Rose directed her appetites toward her own children as well as at least eight other girls. ELIZABETH BATHORY: Born in Hungary in 1560 Countess Bathory was a lesbian who, with her son, two sons-in-law and several female helpers, got young girls to come to her castle on the pretext of finding them work and then tortured and killed them. It is claimed that she killed 600 victims, making her the most prolific female serial killer of all time. MARY ANN COTTON: Mary Ann was a Victorian Black Widow born in the small English village of Low Moorsley in October 1832. She killed for greed and was finally convicted and hanged at Durham County Gaol on 24 March, 1873 for the murders of husbands, step children, her mother and even her own children. AMELIA DYER: Amelia Dyer qualified as a nurse and became a baby-farmer, looking after others babies. After deaths of children in her care she was charged with neglect and served six months in jail and later spent time in a mental asylum but carried on baby-farming. In 1896 she was hanged for the murder of Doris Marmon, a child in her care.
