When her alcoholic misdemeanors land her in court on a drunk-driving charge, Gwen Cummings (Sandra Bullock) is sentenced to 28 days in rehab. Arriving at the clinic, Gwen at first resists the discipline and emotional honesty required by her treatment, but she soon forms bonds with the other inmates and builds up the courage to tackle her problem.
