17-year-old Jimmy Reardon (River Phoenix) is making the most of his last summer before college. He is infatuated with socialite Lisa (Meredith Salenger) but when she asks him to make love to her he cannot comply as he has just been seduced by Joyce a divorced friend of his mother's. Events are further complicated when Jimmy discovers that his father is also having an affair with Joyce.
