Director Robert Altman's final film looks at what goes on backstage during the last broadcast of America's most celebrated radio show.
This film grabs you gently, charmingly but inexplicably, why is it so engaging? Towards the start, the scene where they are chatting about old jingles, the curtain goes up, and out of nowhere they start performing is a magic moment which you might keep replaying. Do Wood Harrelson, Meryl Streep and the other stars really sing that well, they are brilliant. The story is gentle, slightly surreal, but totally engaging, and the music is wonderful. I'm off to buy the soundtrack. Bye the way, the show the film is about actually exists.
