The last of the original three series' of the BBC drama set in the Yorkshire Dales veterinary surgery. Seigfried Farnon (Robert Hardy) is an ageing vet in a busy Dales practice who barely suffers fools at all. James Herriott (Christopher Timothy) is his youthful partner still struggling to adapt to Dales life with his lovely wife, Helen (Carol Drinkwater). Peter Davidson, in his debut role, plays Tristan Farnon, Seigfried's luckless younger brother and scapegoat for anything that goes wrong. The Third season finds the vets concerned about the coming war and how life will change in the Dales. Of course the usual characters are featured such as Mrs. Pumphrey with Tricky, her hypochondriac poodle and Dr. Bennett who never misses a chance to get the 'vit'nery' steaming drunk. Series 3 is the most emotional of the three original seasons with both Seigfried and James eventually called into service and Tristan passing his tests to run the practice on his own merit.
