Oppressed by cats, a Russian mouse family (the Mousekowitzes) emigrate to America in the 19th century. Fievel, the youngest son, gets separated from his family, and finds himself alone on the streets of New York. This was Steven Speilberg's first animated production, using ex-Disney animators and ex-Disney director Don Bluth.
