| DVD

AnonymousPrepare yourself for action and intrigue in this tense thriller from Roland Emmerich (2012, The Day After Tomorrow). Set in the tumultuous political snake-pit of the Elizabethan court, where greedy nobles vie for power and illicit romance goes hand in hand with cloak-and-dagger diplomacy, a secret of historic proportions is about to be revealed. Against the backdrop of the succession of Queen Elizabeth I, and the Essex Rebellion against her, the question of whether Shakespeare wrote his plays will rock England to its very core. The drama has played out but... the battle has only just begun... Shakespeare In LoveYoung Will Shakespeare has been disastrously struck by the bane of the writer's life - writer's block. His comedy Romeo and Ethel the Pirate's Daughter is not going anywhere and the playhouse is under threat of closure. What Will needs is a muse, but the path of true love doesn't run smooth. His love, Lady Viola, is engaged to be married to the insufferable Lord Wessex. The joys and tragedy of his own life find their way onto the page in a moving, witty and spellbinding tale. Please note this is a region 2 DVD and will require a region 2 (Europe) or region Free DVD Player in order to play A double-bill of historical dramas involving William Shakespeare. In 'Anonymous' (2011), political intrigue abounds as the Tudors and the Cecils battle it out over the succession of Queen Elizabeth I (Joely Richardson/Vanessa Redgrave), and the Essex Rebellion mobilises against her. Enter the dashing and wildly talented Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford (Jamie Campbell Bower/Rhys Ifans), who not only fathers an illegitimate son in a clandestine incestuous relationship with Queen Elizabeth, but is also the secret author of the plays labeled with the name of William Shakespeare (Rafe Spall). In 'Shakespeare in Love' (1998), 16th Century London's most promising young playwright, Will Shakespeare (Joseph Fiennes), is suffering from writer's block. Rose Theatre owner Philip Henslowe (Geoffrey Rush) is desperate that Will's new play - tentatively entitled Romeo and Ethel the Pirate's Daughter - be finished, whilst a new cast member, Thomas Kent, is equally eager to make his stage debut. Kent has a secret however: 'he' is actually Viola De Lesseps (Gwyneth Paltrow), merchant's daughter and fiancé of Lord Wessex (Colin Firth). Adopting a disguise to enter a trade forbidden to women, matters become complicated when Will falls for her in her more conventional garb. It may take the intervention of Queen Elizabeth (Judi Dench) herself to make sure the course of true love runs smoothly and that the show goes on.
