Denzel Washington's directorial debut is based on the memoirs of Antwone Fisher (who also wrote the screenplay), a young sailor in the US Navy who had to confront his past in order to deal with his anger. After being in constant trouble for fighting, Fisher (Derek Luke) is sent to naval psychiatrist Dr Jerome (Washington) as a form of anger management. Dr Jerome gradually makes Fisher face up to his past which leads to him seeking out his family.
