Collection of four Oscar-winning foreign films. The Iranian drama 'A Separation' (2011), which won the 2012 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, highlights the far-reaching effects of an acrimonious divorce. Middle-class couple Nader (Peyman Moaadi) and Simin (Leila Hatami) plan to immigrate to Europe with their eleven-year-old daughter Termeh (Sarina Farhadi). But when Nader decides to stay behind to care for his father who is suffering with Alzheimer's, Simin files for divorce and states her intention to leave the country with her daughter. Tensions further escalate when Nader hires housemaid Razieh (Sareh Bayat) to help him care for his father and an unfortunate accident leads to a court case above and beyond the divorce proceedings. The Italian existential drama 'The Great Beauty' (2013), directed by Paolo Sorrentino, follows accomplished journalist Jep Gambardella (Toni Servillo) who has made his name and reputation through his work and a largely successful novel he published as a young man. Presently a bachelor in his mid-60s, Jep spends much of his time around the upper bourgeoisie living in Rome and engages in a hedonistic and liberated life. But when he learns of the death of a former lover through her widowed husband, Jep is at once confronted with the fragility of life and the certainty of death, making him reconsider his present situation and careless existence. Pawel Pawlikowski directs the Polish drama 'Ida' (2013) set in a convent in the 1960s. When Anna (Agata Trzebuchowska), an orphan who was brought up by the nuns of the convent, decides she wants to take her vows, she is told that first she must visit her only living relative, her aunt Wanda (Agata Kulesza). As Wanda reveals to Anna that her real name is Ida Lebenstein and that she is actually Jewish, Anna starts to rethink her whole life. As the two go on a journey to find out more about their ancestors they reveal certain facts that were best left hidden. In the French drama 'Amour' (2012) Anne and George (Emmanuelle Riva and Jean-Louis Trintignant) are a couple in their 80s who are enjoying their retirement, but that changes when, after an operation following a stroke, Anne is left wheelchair-bound and paralysed. Although she expresses her wish to die, even going so far as to make an attempt at taking her own life, George tries to remind her of the beauty and worth of life and the love that they share for each other.
