African art is filled with beautiful designs and colour. The focus of this program is to capture the spirit of Africa. And a visit to Africa wouldn't be complete without taking time for some of the different animals that inhabit this continent. Projects include: Dance Mask - Incorporate African design paint and paper-mache to create a colourful mask reminiscent of tribal culture. Shekere - What is dancing without music? Your shekere is made of a dried gourd and woven string and beads. This weaving technique is also great over all different containers. Kwanza Beads... - Seven different beads illustrate each of the seven principles of Kwanza. You'll make your own clay from glue and flour. Floor Cloth - Using fabric paints and unique design transform leftover floor covering into a beautiful floor rug. Mancala Game - Mancala is the generic name for a group of games from ancient Africa. Create your version with a lightweight Styrofoam board and gemstone beads. T-Shirt Snake - Is it a snake or a T-shirt? Wild Animal Puppets - Whimsical creatures incorporate many characteristics of their live counterparts. Here we use foam glue paint and chenille to create these puppets. Paper Chain Animals - Learn a fun cutting technique to create a whole herd of animals. It's a Jungle Out There - Create a page for your memory book with photos and animal designs. Lizard Shirt - Safari in this great lizard shirt made with easy fabric paints. Baby Hippo - How much can a hippo's mouth actually hold? Your Styrofoam model with it's secret compartment will give you an idea. [show more]
