Michael Boll (James Spader) is a timid yuppie with problems at work and troubles at home. One night, when he gets into a bar fight and is rescued by the charismatic Alex (Rob Lowe), he finds a friend who teaches him to be more assertive, but also introduces him to a world of drugs, violence and crime - a world from which he finds himself unable to escape. Vintage 'walk on the wild side' movie, with Lowe playing up to his bad boy image and Spader again proving himself a convincing yuppie.
