Beauty and the Beast DVD

With Christmas coming up I had been searching for a present for the two little girls in our family. I noticed that "Beauty and the Beast" had recently been released so I had a little look before wrapping it up!

This is the Disney animated version of the traditional French fairy story (La Belle et la Bete) originally written by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve in 1740 and adapted by Jeanne-Marie Le Prince de Beaumont in1756. The story was translated into English the following year. The Disney version was a 1991 film which up until recently was the only... animated film to have been nominated for a "Best Picture" award at the Oscars. It has now been released on DVD and Blu-ray. The film is well presented and the lovely soundtrack is sure to appeal to all ages.

Belle (the beauty) is a highly intelligent and beautiful girl who lives with her father in a small French village. She constantly has to reject advances from Gaston (a loutish, arrogant young man from the village) who believes she should become his wife. When she refuses to marry him he becomes enraged and turns into the cruel villain of the piece. The Beast is really a young prince who was transformed under the spell of an enchantress. The palace servants are also under the spell and are turned into inanimate objects such as candelabra (Lumiere), a teapot (Mrs Potts) and a feather duster (Fifi) among others. The curse can only be removed if the Beast finds true love before all the petals from an enchanted rose fall off on his 21st birthday. Well - do I have to go on! True to Disney style, it all turns out happily ever after. After being imprisoned in the castle Belle discovers the Beast's inner beauty with the help of the cursed palace staff, who she has befriended, and falls in love with him. The spell is lifted after a fight between the Beast and Gaston when Belle reveals her true feelings for him just as the last rose petal drops to the ground.....

This beautiful and magical love story has a timeless significance.

There is bound to be someone in your family who will be delighted to receive this for Christmas.
