Bigshot Broadway producer Peter Denver (Van Heflin) meets Nancy (Peggy Ann Garner) at a glamorous show business party. Nunnally Johnson writes and directs this mystery crime drama starring Ginger Rogers, Van Heflin, Gene Tierney and George Raft. When famous Broadway producer Peter Denver (Heflin) goes to a party held by actress Carlotta Marin (Rogers) and her husband Brian Mullen (Reginald Gardiner), he becomes acquainted with Nancy Ordway (Peggy Ann Garner), a young, struggling writer who is looking for a place to do her work. After being persuaded by Nancy, Peter allows her to work in his apartment with consent from his wife Iris (Tierney). However, when Nancy is later found dead Peter finds himself accused of murder by Detective Lieutenant Bruce (Raft) and attempts to prove his innocence.
