The Blue Mountains of Australia have been likened to the Grand Canyon of the USA... bright ochre cliff walls lining deep valleys filled with spectacular vegetation... valleys vast and unspoiled beckoning with a myriad of experiences. It's a unique part of Australia an area that also contains some very distinctive villages attractions and characters. Producer/presenter Greg Grainger documents the very best of the Blue Mountains in this programme capturing all the untouched old world charm of the Mountains. Starting with a ride in a grand old steam train ride from Sidney... up into the Mountains Greg takes us to Charleston dance contests in grand old hotels Christmas celebrations in July and echoing championships off the famous Three Sisters. Greg then joins a fleet of 1920 vintage racing cars to travel through historic settlements. Along the way they experience Winter Magic festivals in the snow the world's steepest railway line and gardens of perfection. In the wilderness there's wildlife aplenty with herds of kangaroos in the bush and the successful search for rare and endangered rock wallabies. Greg also experiences canyoning - the art of abseiling through waterfalls. In the Jenolan Caves a group of teenage singers serenade amongst spectacular limestone formations. The highlight of Blue Mountains Magic is the discovery of the Jurassic Pine - a pine tree found in the valleys of Wollemi that dates back to the days of the dinosaurs making them by far the oldest living plant specimens in the world. Greg Grainger is an award-winning producer and presenter of topical travel documentaries and wildlife programmes to remote and exotic locations. [show more]
