The choices made by a group of idealistic students in the late 1960s are echoed by their offspring in this reflective study of the generation gap. Caught up in the idealism and rebellion of the Paris revolts of May 1969, students Catherine (Laetitia Casta), Yves (Yannick Renier), and Herve (Yann Tregouet) decide to break free of the city and start a commune on an abandoned farm. Once the initial excitement has subsided, however, the friends soon find their utopian existence has lost its sheen, as their personal aspirations head off in different directions. 20 years later, with the fall of communism and the rapid onset of AIDS, Catherine and Yves' children, much as their parents did, begin to question the previous generation's brave new world.
