Ed Wood's cult horror film was financed by cattle rancher, Donald McCoy, on two conditions: that his son Tony would star, and that Wood would make a powerful anti-nuke statement. Bela Lugosi stars as Dr Vornoff, a mad scientist on a quest to create a new race of atomic people to conquer the world. To create these super-beings he performs a delicate operation - he straps a lampshade to their head and administers a huge electric current. However, his experiments succeed only in killing his subjects. He proposes to use a beautiful newspaper reporter, Janet Lawton (Loretta King), but is himself experimented upon by his giant mute assistant, Lobo (Tor Johnson). Vornoff becomes immensely strong, able to resist police bullets, and is killed only after falling prey to a giant rubber octopus.
