Triple pack of documentaries looking at World War I from the perspective of Great Britain. 'Land Warfare Technology' examines the development of land warfare and the effect it had on the conflict. From the killing power of the machine gun and the dramatic introduction of the tank to the emergence of the new terror weapon, gas first used by the Germans with terrible effect at Ypres on the Western Front in 1915. 'Air Power Technology' shows how, at the outbreak of war, aircraft were to play an increasingly important role in reconnaissance and range-finding for the artillery. In the latter stages of the conflict, their roles included ground attack and long-range bombing. 'Sea Power Technology' starts with the key sea battle of WWI, The Battle of Jutland in 1916, which, although inconclusive, blunted the threat of the German fleet. The programme ends with a look at the aircraft carrier which made a major breakthrough in 1917 with the first deck landing.
