Clint (Tim Matheson) owns a construction company and appears to live a normal, hard-working life along with his wife Joanna (Jennifer Jason Leigh). What Clint doesn't know is that Joanna is having an affair with a doctor (William Atherton) and is desperate to escape the drudgery of her life with Clint. Together Joanna and her lover hatch a plan to kill Clint and escape to California with the insurance money and the proceeds from the sale of his company. They duly poison him and bury him, but have they made sure that the betrayed Clint is really dead?
