Gordon MacRae and Shirley Jones star in this classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical. The story follows carnival barker Billy Bigelow (MacRae) who, one night, meets the love of his life, millworker Julie Jordan (Jones). As the two get whisked up in a romantic love affair, their professional lives begin to suffer and they both lose their jobs. When Julie reveals to Billy that she is carrying his child, Billy worries about not being able to provide for his family and agrees to join his low-life acquaintance Jigger Craigin (Cameron Mitchell) in a robbery. When they discover that their target, the wealthy Mr Bascombe (John Dehner), is unusually armed, Billy panics and reaches for his knife. After a scuffle however, Billy winds up the worse off and ends up having to watch his daughter grow up from Heaven.
