Compelled to use his own money for his expense account Major Carrington becomes convinced that he will never see his money again and decides to take back the money from his department's funds without permission. For this error in military rules Carrington is court-martialed. During the trial Carrington's selfish wife (Margaret Leighton) gets even for a wartime affair conducted by her husband by supplying false testimony. David Niven (CASINO ROYALE, THE PINK PANTHER) is Major Charles Copper Carrington, a World War II decorated veteran who finds himself entangled in an intricate plot when he is accused of improperly entertaining a lady, embezzlement and being absent without leave. Due to these serious allegations, the officer is sent for a court martial, with a risk of being expelled with dishonour from the Army. But Major Carrington maintains that he can provide a bullet proof alibi against all accusations. Could it be that someone is trying to frame him?
