This adaptation of Laurie Lee's novel features the voice of the late author himself as narrator. In 1918 Gloucestershire, young Laurie (Dashiell Reece) grows up in the heart of the countryside, surrounded by his warm and earthy family: Uncle Sid (David Troughton), Uncle Ray (Con O'Neill) and Annie (Juliet Stevenson). The film chronicles not only Laurie's passage through adolescence and into manhood, but also the fragile evolution of rural Britain.
