Made in 2001, Cliff Richard--Unforgettable is part documentary profile, part greatest hits compilation and for devotees provides over two hours in the company of one of Britain’s greatest living entertainers. Through a segmented interview, Cliff provides his own commentary (and the occasional wry observation on his standing with critics and the pop industry) on a career of extraordinary longevity. Nobody else has made hit records in every decade since the 1950s. And most of them are presented here, either as film or video archive or in a lengthy segment of Cliff’s... record-breaking 40th Anniversary concert series at the Royal Albert Hall. His Eurovision Song Contest appearances are catalogued alongside original trailers for his feel-good movies of the early 1960s. The whole thing becomes a kind of "Seven Ages of Cliff"--the changing hairstyles alone are a lesson in fashion history--coming up to date with his critically-derided but commercially successful run as Heathcliff in the 1990s and the hits which persisted in spite of almost non-existent airplay on national radio. One day, somebody will provide the definitive independent analysis of this ageless Peter Pan figure.
