Fred Astaire and Leslie Caron star in this classic musical directed by Jean Negulesco. When wealthy American Jervis Pendleton III (Astaire) meets 18-year-old French orphan Julie Andre (Caron), he immediately feels for the poor girl and sends money for her education. Although Julie writes to her mysterious benefactor several times, she never hears back and resolves herself to getting a good education at her new school. Years later, Jervis decides to visit Julie at school to see how she is doing and, despite their vast age difference, they fall madly in love.
