Renowned as the ""Cradle of Railways"" the North East of England has always had heavy freight traffic. During the era of the First Generation diesels of classes 20 31 33 37 and 47 they probably saw more changes than anywhere else on the old British Railways system. Many examples of these together with shunters of class 08 are seen working in the 1980s 90s and 2000s on main and branch lines including the Tees-side and Tyneside Humberside and in Yorkshire.
