Director Peter Webber's drama follows the events leading to the decision on whether Japan's Emperor should be indicted as a war criminal at the close of WWII. Set in the days following Japan's surrender in 1945, the Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers, General of the Army Douglas MacArthur (Tommy Lee Jones), assigns Brigadier General Bonner Fellers (Matthew Fox) the task of investigating the role played by Emperor Hirohito (Takatarô Kataoka) during the war. Given only ten days to complete his findings, however, Fellers soon finds himself torn between the completion of his mission and his own personal search for Aya (Eriko Hatsune), the exchange student who captured his heart before the war.
