Following hot on the heels of the success of Black God White Devil comes the second film in Brazilian director Glauber Rocha's famous trilogy; Entranced Earth (Terra EmTranse) a bold confrontational and vibrant picture that stands as one of the greatest pieces of work from a director widely considered to be the leader of Brazil's Cinema Novo movement. In the fictitious Latin American country of Eldorado the idealistic and anarchist poet Paulo Martins lies near death reflecting on the great struggle of his life; a conflict between the populist liberal governor and right... wing conservative party leader. Torn between the madness of the elite and the blind submission of the masses he finds nothing is truly as it seems as he begins to understand the true price an artist must pay for commitment to a cause. A brash unflinching and unashamedly confrontational film Entranced Earth asks a series of difficult questions about the true nature of politics and life in Latin America and the tense shift that the world was going through in the 1960s. Compulsory viewing for anyone interested in Glauber Rocha and/or Brazilian/Latin American political cinema Entranced Earth is highly impacting historically important film that asks tough questions and forces the viewer to truly think before answering honestly. The second instalment in cult Brazilian director Glauber Rocha's trilogy, which begins with 'Black God White Devil' (1964) and concludes with 'Antonio das Mortes' (1969). The films are classic examples of the Brazilian 'Cinemo Novo' movement, in which young directors set out to challenge political and artistic expectations, often focusing themes of poverty and politics. In the fictitious Latin American country of Eldorado, the idealistic and anarchist poet Paulo Martins (Jardel Filho) lies on his deathbed and reflects upon the great political struggle of his life: an ongoing and unresolved conflict between the power-hungry madness of the elite and the blind submission of the masses.
