While Plame is leading a covert investigation into the presence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, her diplomat husband Wilson publishes a controversial article accusing the administration of manipulating intelligence about the weapons to justify the invasion of Iraq. When Plame's identity is subsequently revealed by a journalist, her overseas contacts are placed in mortal danger, and Plame is pushed to breaking point as both her career and her family life are brought to ruin.
