Family Plot DVD

| DVD

Alfred Hitchcock's final film Family Plot is understated comic fun that mixes suspense with deft humour, thanks to a solid cast. The plot centres on the kidnapping of an heir and a diamond theft by a pair of bad guys led by Karen Black and William Devane. The cops seem befuddled, but that doesn't stop a questionable psychic (Barbara Harris) and her not overly bright boyfriend (Bruce Dern, in a rare good-guy role) from picking up the trail and actually solving the crime. Did she do it with actual psychic powers? That's part of the fun of Harris's enjoyably ditsy performance.... --Marshall Fine [show more]

Starring Bruce Dern, Barbara Harris, Wiliiam Devane, and Karen Black, Family Plot is the story of a cabbie and a psychic who team up to find a dead man who's not really dead, in exchange for a $10,000 reward. In the process, their lives become intertwined with a larcenous jewel merchant and his beautiful "Woman in Black". Needless to say, there are kidnappings, murder attempts, laughs, and plenty of Hitchcock's famous twists before the "Family Plot" is finally revealed. Alfred Hitchcock's 54th and final film. Fake medium Blanche (Barbara Harris) and her boyfriend Lumley (Bruce Dern) are attempting to scam the elderly Miss Rainbird (Cathleen Nesbitt) by discovering the long-lost heir to her family fortune. Meanwhile, sinister jeweller Arthur Adamson (William Devane) plots a kidnapping scheme with his girlfriend, Fran (Karen Black). Although no link is immediately discernible between the activities of the two couples, their paths eventually cross in the most unexpected of ways.
