He boxes, but his abusive father exploits him, keeping any winnings for himself. Help comes when he meets Frank (Martin Sheen) a local physician who takes an interest in Abner and shows him how his boxing can help him escape. Just as things are looking better for him, tragedy strikes and threatens to derail everyones attempts to get him a better life.

Martin Sheen and Kirk Harris star in this drama directed by Miguel Necoechea. When professional boxer Jimmy 'The Dream' Irwin (Harris) is forced to take early retirement due to injury, he travels home to see his father, Dr Frank Irwin (Sheen). While at the gym Jimmy watches a young Mexican street fighter, Abner (Alex Perea) in the ring and sees an opportunity to turn his attention to coaching. As Jimmy tries to prepare the hoodlum for his first professional bout, he realises that training a delinquent to fight properly might not be as easy as he thought.
