Romantic drama directed by Italian brothers Paolo and Vittorio Taviani. While travelling to visit their grandfather in Tuscany, two children are told the story of a family curse that has lasted 200 years. During Napoleon's Italian invasion, Elisabetta 'Fiorile' ('wild flower') Benedetti (Galatea Ranzi) discovers that her own brother Corado (Claudio Bigagli) is responsible for the crime for which her lover Jean (Michael Vartan) was executed. The embittered Fiorile places a curse on the Benedettis, who become wealthy but corrupt and hated by their former friends and neighbours, who rename them the Maledettis: 'the cursed ones'. The children's grandfather Massimo is the last man to be directly affected by the curse - but will he pass it onto them?
