A gritty black comedy about a professional gambler whose life starts to unravel when he comes under the spell of a seductive bookie. Happily married to successful lawyer Helen (Laura Fraser), gambler John (Joe Anderson) pays his way in life through his winnings on the track. But with his fellow gambler, father-in law Freddie (Ricky Tomlinson), worried that he's following in his footsteps, John's life takes a sudden change in direction when he meets vivacious new bookie Stan (Anna Anissimova) at the dog track. As he embarks on a crash course in fast-living and deceit, John soon risks everything as his life begins to spiral out of control.
