This Brazilian film, in black and white, directed by Walter Salles and Daniela Thomas, tells the story of Paco (Fernando Alves Pinto), a young man who dreams of travelling to Spain and becoming an actor. Being penniless, he agrees to smuggle goods for Igor (Luis Melo) in order to pay for his ticket. He ends up in Portugal, the foreign land of the title, where he meets fellow Brazilian, Alex (Fernanda Torres), a beautiful, troubled woman with plans of her own that will put them on a dangerous path.
