Frankie Vallie and the Four Seasons have travelled a long way from their humble beginnings on the street corners of Newark to centre stage as the most successful doo-wop group in rock and roll history. Built on a foundation of superb song writing from Bob Gaudio and arrangements and production that drew on everything from Phil Spector's 'Wall of Sound' to the danceable beats of Motown's pop and R&B singles The Four Seasons' unique sound was capped by the forceful falsetto and three-octave range of lead vocalist Valli. The group made their chart debut in 1956 but they... had to wait another six years before they managed to top the charts with Sherry a song which earned them a recording contract with a major label and catapulted them into rock and roll superstardom. Over the next few years the Four Seasons followed Sherry with such unforgettable original songs as Big Girls Don't Cry Walk Like a Man Candy Girl and Rag Doll all of which became rock and roll classics. Still going strong Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons have become an institution whose illustrious history spans several musical eras from the barbershop harmonies of the '50s to the disco beat of the '70s and beyond. In 1990 the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame joining such legends as the Rolling Stones the Beatles and Eric Clapton.
