Gangster No. 1 Vincent Dianni (Danny Aiello) is one of the mob's most loyal foot soldiers. He has always obeyed his Mafia bosses no matter how vicious the jobs they give him. Vinnie decides to leave the underworld but his employers are getting worried that he might rat them out to save his increasingly tortured conscience. The only answer is to arrange for him to be taken out by his young protege Tommy (William Forsythe) but is Tommy ruthless enough to murder his best friend in cold blood?
