The East Coast of England was served by the railways that came together in 1923 to form the London and North Eastern Railway one of the greatest railway companies of all time. Renowned for its famous named trains such as the Flying Scotsman the Silver jubilee and the Queen of Scots amongst others the LNER built a succession of legendary Pacific steam locomotives to the designs of Sir Nigel Gresley many of which were named after racehorses. By contrast the LNERs railways in East Anglia were built to serve a land which has changed little over the years and the... railways reflected this timeless appeal.
