God Bless America DVD

| DVD

Frank has had enough of the downward spiral of American culture, which he sees as overrun with cruelty, stupidity and intolerance. Divorced, recently fired, and possibly terminally ill, Frank truly has nothing left to live for. But instead of taking his own life, he buys a gun and decides to take out his frustration on the cruellest, stupidest, most intolerant people he can imagine-starting with some particularly odious reality television stars. Frank finds an unusual accomplice in a high-school student named Roxy, who shares his sense of rage and together they embark... on a nation-wide assault on America's dumbest, most irritating celebrities. Writer/director Bobcat Goldthwait skewers everything that's wrong with contemporary American culture in this firebomb satire about a disillusioned middle-aged man who embarks on a violent crime spree with a cynical teenage girl. Fed up with his selfish neighbors, fired from his soul-sucking job, and depressed at the infrequency of visits with his bratty young daughter, 45-year-old divorcUe Frank (Joel Murray) prepares to end it all after being diagnosed with a fatal brain tumor. Just as Frank is about to pull the trigger, however, he has a sudden flash of inspiration: before he takes his own life, he'll do the world a big favor and permanently silence the loudmouthed teenage star of a popular reality-television show. Meanwhile, high-school misfit Roxy (Tara Lynne Barr) witnesses the killing firsthand, and then convinces Frank to continue his bloody mission of cultural cleansing with her as his sidekick. In no time, Frank and Roxy are leaving a trail of bodies in their wake, and making headlines across the country. But all good things must come to an end, and when their partnership hits an unexpected hitch, Frank draws up plans to go out with a final bang.

Bobcat Goldthwait writes and directs this blackly comic critique of modern America and its obsession with reality television, celebrity and consumerism. Frank (Joel Murray) has reached the end of his tether: his estranged daughter hates him, he has been fired from his job, his neighbours are heinously rude, and, to top it all, he has just been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour. As he channel-surfs through the mind-numbing dross on television, he finally loses his patience and sets out to rid his country of the filth that corrupts it. Embarking on a no-holds-barred killing spree, he finds an early fan and confidante in precocious teenager Roxy (Tara Lynne Barr) and the two re-invent themselves as a modern-day Bonnie and Clyde as they set out to rid society of its most repellent elements.
