Mexican musical melodrama from Spanish director Luis Bunuel, starring popular Latin singing stars of the day, Jorge Negrete and Libertad Lamarque. Following the mysterious disappearance of a wealthy oil well owner, one of his workers, Gerardo (Negrete) takes over the running of the business. Soon after, the missing owner's sister Mercedes (Lamarque) arrives from Argentina, and - convinced that Gerardo killed her brother to secure the wells for himself - assumes a false identity and gets a job as a singer in the casino where her brother disappeared in an attempt to find out what happened to him.
