Greek is a modern re-telling of the Oedipus myth, set in seedy East End of London in the late 1980's, based on the eponymous play by the maverick playwright Steven Berkoff. The opera was commissioned by Hans Werner Henze for the Munich Biennale and received it's world premiere there in June 1988. Jonathan Moore has adapted his original stage version for this special studio recording, for which Richard Bernas conducts The Almeida Ensemble.
