Documentary that sets out to tell the story behind the events leading up to the First World War. Narrated by Fritz Weaver, the film uses archive footage to bring to life the range of tensions among the various strands of European monarchy which placed the continent on a knife edge in the early months of 1914. The assassination of Austria's Archduke Franz Ferdinand on Sunday 28th June of that year was the trigger for a terrible four-year conflict that cost millions of lives and caused untold physical and emotional damage.
