Wow. The morning after watching this film and I think my adrenaline is still pumping. Starring Robert DeNiro and the child prodigy Dakota Fanning it already has a solid base to build from.
The story revolves around David (DeNiro) and his daughter Emily (Fanning), a troubled child following the suicide of her mother. Seeking a fresh start David takes his daughter upstate to a small town, His new neighbours may seem a little weird but it"s at home where things soon start to go wrong. Emily refuses to talk to her father and creates an imaginary friend called "Charlie". Things soon start to turn sinister as violent incidents occur around the house of which Charlie is blamed for. Charlie simply doesn"t like David.
The film is full of suspense and tension which will keep you gripped till the end. So many times will you find yourself thinking "Ah, I know what"s going on here", "He"s not imaginary" or "He"s the real Charlie" but you"ll always be finding yourself proved wrong or changing your mind.
Fanning"s acting is again flawless and when you think of her other films such as "Man on Fire" you being to wonder.. Is she really a 10 year old or is she actually a 40 year old seasoned pro trapped in a little girl"s body? With her new hair colour and saucer like eyes she plays the dark role perfectly. Meanwhile, after starring in such films as "Meet the Fockers", DeNiro finds himself in a role which is reminiscent his earlier films. If you"re anything like me you"ll be so happy towards then end of the film thinking to yourself "Now this is true DeNiro and it"s about time!".
If you want a suspense filled experience with many twists and turns then this mixture of "The Shining" and "Sixth Sense" is the film you should see. Most of all, If you are a fan of DeNiro I strongly recommend you see this film just to see him in a glimpse of all his former glory.
