The programme contains footage captured by German film-makers Simon Busch and Alexander Sass who travelled for months around the north of the country to film its inhabitants. On their travels they observed the rituals of the Varanasi people and witnessed the biggest religious gathering in the world in which 35 million pilgrims bathed in the sacred Ganges during the Kumbh Mela.
