This documentary attempts to look behind the mask of the young shy man who became an icon for Fifties teenagers, and indeed teenagers in the ensuing decades as well. His friends and colleagues from the 1950's are interviewed including Nicholas Ray, Dennis Hopper, Carroll Baker and Natalie Wood. It also includes footage from the Robert Altman film 'The James Dean Story', and rare film of early screen tests.
