Janis Joplin (1943 - 1970) remains the voice of Flower Power and an icon to a generation. Her musical break-through was at the legendary Monterey Rock festival 1967 but she could not handle the price of fame and success and died of a heroin overdose just 3 years later on October 4 1970.
