Faced with an unplanned pregnancy, an offbeat young woman makes an unusual and bizarre decision regarding her unborn child.
I thought this film, was very grabbing, equally humorous as well as being emotional. It told the story of the pregnant teenager in a very different way and shows how she makes a very difficult decision about giving her child away at birth. She becomes attached to the adoption parents whilst battling the troubles of the child"s father, a young teenage boy. This film is defiantly one you should buy, even if you have already watched it at the cinema, I sure did!
Not so neatly timed to coincide with the DVD release of Juno, the tabloids have been awash lately with stories about American high schools where startling numbers of underage girls are becoming pregnant and there has been much speculation that these pregnancies are inspired by characters seen in films like Juno and Knocked Up. In reality of course films and television can"t be blamed for all of society"s ills and Juno certainly doesn"t glorify the issue of teen pregnancy. In fact, even the most impressionable child would lose their desire to emulate Juno as her pregnant belly swells to the point of her innie turning into an outie. Despite being almost so hip that it hurts, Juno is at heart really a rather charming love story coupled with sublime humour and an uplifting outlook. After discovering that she is pregnant by long-time friend Paulie Bleaker (another brilliantly understated from comic genius Michael Cera), teenager Juno MacGuff (Ellen Page in a superb follow-up to her breakout role in Hard Candy) quickly decides that she doesn"t want to keep the baby. After a laugh out loud with a schoolmate at an abortion clinic, Juno breaks the news of her pregnancy to her father and stepmother (J.K. Simmons and Allison Janney) and starts scouring the newspaper classified adverts for prospective adoptive parents. She decides on perfectly perfect couple Mark and Vanessa Loring (Jason Bateman and Jennifer Garner) as the ideal parents for her baby and, anxious to ensure that the child will have a good life, starts spending time at their house and becomes increasingly close to Mark while struggling to carry on as normal in school once the pregnancy can no longer be hidden. Although Juno has now experienced the backlash that all incredibly popular cult films come up against at some point or another, the transfer to DVD has done nothing to dampen the enjoyment of the film. As well as being one of the funniest films of last year, Juno is also just as emotional, sharp and cool as the hype would have you believe. Diablo Cody"s script is tight and witty, with a stylised dialogue that suits the characters perfectly. The cast are uniformly excellent and the soundtrack is perfect. Juno is a joy to watch.
It looks like one of those preachy american films about pregnancy, something you really don't want to watch because you'll get one of those stuck up horrible teeenage girls, right?
Wrong.
Such a smartly written chracter, Juno is hilarious, laugh out loud and simply beautiful. Maybe it's not the best film for those who like action, but if you are like me and love a good old film thats not too girly, simple and funny, then get this! I cant wait for the dvd to be released as it was simply fantastic to see at the cinema.
Juno will be one of the best characters you have seen portrayed in a very long time, you're bound to fall in love with her :)

Upbeat coming-of-age story about a smart teenage girl who has to face life full on when she falls pregnant. When Juno (Ellen Page), a teenager with all the answers, finds out she's pregnant to her classmate Bleeker (Michael Cera), she soon realises she has to ask for help from family and friends. Luckily, she enlists the help of her best friend Leah (Olivia Thirlby) in trying to find a couple to adopt her unborn child, while her understanding parents (J.K. Simmons and Allison Janney) provide the support she needs to help her through some tough times. When Leah finally uncovers a young, affluent couple, Mark and Vanessa (Jason Bateman and Jennifer Garner), desperate to adopt, it seems the perfect solution, until Juno finds herself having to face some serious adult decisions while trying to figure out her place in the world.
Please note this is a region 2 DVD and will require a region 2 (Europe) or region Free DVD Player in order to play. Fresh, original, and ceaselessly entertaining Jason Reitman's Juno is one of the brightest and funniest comedies of the decade. With scathingly sharp dialogue and intangible character chemistry, Juno is a coming-of-age film that is consistently funny and effortlessly cool. Sixteen-year-old Minnesota high-school student Juno Maguff (Ellen Page) is a rebellious, outwardly confident and highly articulate teenager with a penchant for seventies punk and Dario Argento horror. Faced with an unexpected pregnancy, the result of an experimental encounter with calm, amiable, and sweetly reserved best friend Paulie Bleeker (Michael Cera), Juno has to make the biggest decision of her life. Weighing up her options with reliable and quirky cheerleader friend Leah (Olivia Thirlby), brazen Juno chooses to carry out the pregnancy and scour the local ads paper for potential adoptive parents for her unborn child. In the young yuppie couple of cool, laidback Mark (Jason Bateman) and meticulous, child-needy Vanessa (Jennifer Garner), Juno finds seemingly perfect prospective parents. So as Juno delves into the unknown responsibility of a very adult world, will everything go according to plan? The sensational performances of the entire cast particularly Ellen Page (Hard Candy) and Michael Cera (Superbad) enable you to become hopelessly and happily lost in the story and with Jason Reitman's seamless direction and real-life attention to detail, much like Judd Apatow's Knocked Up, Juno bristles with vitality and heart. But it's the edgy freshness of first-time scriptwriter Diablo Cody's quick-fire dialogue that really makes Juno such a warm, wonderful, and inspired comedy. Bearing a resemblance to the similarly idiosyncratic Little Miss Sunshine, Juno portrays ordinary - ordinarily eccentric - people dealing with difficult situations with humour, warmth, and decency.
