Collection of four Koreeda Hirokazu films. In 'After Life' (1998), we are taken to a type of limbo whereby newly deceased people are asked to reflect on their lives and think of their one happiest memory from life. A group of social workers then recreate this memory for the dead to witness and then they vanish to another unknown existence with only this memory to recall. Part documentary, part scripted, the film encourages reflection and existential introspection. In 'Nobody Knows' (2004), 12-year-old Akira (Yuya Yagira) wakes up one morning to find a note from his mother and some money with instructions to look after his three younger siblings while she is away. At first the children cope well, helping each other with the housework as Akira ensures that the bills are paid. But when the mother doesn't return after several weeks the children are forced to deal with an increasingly chaotic situation, as Akira tries to prevent the landlord from finding out the truth. In 'Still Walking' (2008), middle-aged art restorer Ryota (Hiroshi Abe) and his sister Chinami (You) return to their childhood home with their own families for a gathering to mark the anniversary of the death of their older brother Junpei, who drowned while saving another boy's life 15 years earlier. The film tracks the subtle events that take place over the course of one summer's day as the family members reconnect while struggling to come to terms with undercurrents of generational conflict and the consequences of loss. In 'Air Doll' (2009), Hideo (Itsuji Itao) lavishes affection upon his doll, Nozomi (Doona Bae), and seems to appreciate her silently passive nature. Unbeknownst to him, however, one day Nozomi comes to life and sets out in search of human experience. On her wanderings she happens upon a video rental store, where she meets Junichi (Arata). As an emotional bond forms between the pair, Nozomi is gradually introduced to the more complex nature of human emotion.
