In the 1984 St. Leger at Doncaster Lester powered home the resolute Commanche Run to break Frank Buckle's long-standing record of 27 Classic wins. However in 1990 at the age of 54 Lester stunned the racing world by resuming his riding career after completing a two year prison sentence.
