Lilies details the lives of three Catholic sisters Iris May and Ruby Moss as they come of age. The girls are all in their early twenties and live in a dockland terraced house with their brother and father. Set in the years immediately following the First World War Lilies depicts a sensual and vivid life on the knife-edge of poverty which is both moving and comical.
