David Seltzer makes his directorial debut with this quirky teen comedy. Lucas (Corey Haim) is a normal 14-year-old who is struggling with hormones, girls and popularity. There is, however, an added hurdle: having been accelerated to a higher grade, Lucas is unusually young and small for his year. This doesn't affect his emotions, however, and he soon falls head over heels for a pretty girl called Maggie (Kerri Green). But the course of true love never runs smooth, and Maggie's affection for Lucas is overshadowed by her attraction for football hero Cappie (Charlie Sheen). In the face of this massive adversity Lucas grows desperate, and decides to risk everything by playing in the big football game of the season... Winona Ryder co-stars in her feature debut as Rina, a classmate who has a crush on Lucas.
Sixteen year old Lucas is more interested in the wonders of science and the beauty of insects than football and parties. His problems begin when he falls in love with a pretty cheerleader during the summer, but when school begins again she completely forgets him.
